Plant tulip bulbs in fall, several weeks before the ground freezes. Choose a location with good drainage and plenty of sunlight. Plant the bulbs with the pointed end facing upward and cover them with soil.
Water after planting to encourage root development. The bulbs remain dormant through winter before producing foliage and flowers in spring.
Plant Care & Blooming
Water during active spring growth when rainfall is insufficient, but avoid keeping the soil constantly wet. After flowering, remove the spent flower heads to prevent unnecessary seed production, but allow the foliage to remain until it naturally yellows and dies back. The leaves help replenish the bulb for the following season.
In colder climates, the bulbs can remain in the ground year after year. In warmer areas, tulips may perform best when treated as annuals or replanted each fall because insufficient winter chilling can reduce future flowering.
Note: Yellow Gold Apeldoorn Tulips require a period of winter chilling for proper spring flowering. Plant bulbs in fall for the best results.
